Centenary Refugee Rally in Wimbledon Common on 24 June 2016

Since my last post, the Government has reconsidered its original position and accepted the second amendment tabled by Lord Dubs to accept unaccompanied child refugees in Europe, with the exact number to be determined with local authorities.
Thanks to those who wrote to their MPs and made their voice heard – your efforts made a difference!
Another way you can show your support for welcoming refugees is to come to the Centenary Refugee Rally in Wimbledon Common this Friday 24 June. It’s being organised by Merton Welcomes Refugees to commemorate a similar rally held just over 100 years ago by local residents to show support for Belgian refugees fleeing occupation at the start of World War I. Families are welcome, the keynote speaker will be Lord Dubs, and the rally will also be a tribute to Jo Cox. See more details and register to attend here!
