Merton Winter Night Shelter – 22nd January 2018

So at about 8 a.m. this morning we said goodbye to this year’s bunch of homeless guys who have been visiting us each Sunday evening for the past eight weeks.

They’ve had hot evening meals lovingly prepared by various cooks, a peaceful and dry place to sleep, showers, hot breakfasts and packed lunches to take with them each Monday morning.

We’ve had the opportunity to show God’s love first hand, to get to know men from around the globe (Polish, South African, Rumanian, Iranian, Lithuanian, Sri Lankan, British), to share with them what God’s love has done for us and can do for them.

Of the original group of twelve guys, half have moved on having found accommodation or jobs or both. There’s always a queue for places, so they’ve instantly been replaced by others, all seeking to have a chance of improving their situation.

More than forty volunteers from Everyday Church Wimbledon participated, always getting much more from them than we give to them.

Our guests have moved on now to a further block of seven churches where they will be housed until the middle of March, keeping them off the streets during the coldest nights of the year.

Please continue to hold them in your prayers and pray that the day is coming when there will be no need for a winter night shelter.

God bless

Malcolm
