The title for this post is Home for Good‘s vision, a charity which raises awareness of the need for foster and adoptive parents, encourages families to provide homes for children in care and equips the Church to offer welcoming communities for them.

I’ve met with a couple of amazing people who work for the charity and was reading their website to give you information tidbits and invite you along to an event we are hosting at Everyday Kingston in partnership with Home for Good on Sunday 28 January (see details and please sign up here if you’re joining us for lunch!).

But soundbites miss the point, and no blog post can carry the weight of heartbreak, loss, suffering, hope and belonging that are encapsulated in the word family, and what it means to have the one you yearn for, big or small, safe, loving, just right. Irrespective of how old we are, our stage of life or experiences, we know what it is to have and not to have family and the ways in which it’s wonderful and the ways in which it sometimes (or often) falls hopelessly short.

I’m thankful for parents who loved and raised me, for a mother whose loss has made me feel orphaned in ways I never imagined, for adoption into God’s family (Romans 8:15, Ephesians 4:1-5), this God of abiding love whose heart is for widows, and orphans, the Father to the fatherless who sets the lonely in families (Psalm 68:8).

We are really looking forward to learning more about adoption and fostering on Sunday 28 January and how we can get involved, whether it’s directly or by supporting those who do, praying or giving financially, and hope that you can join us! Even if you’ve never considered fostering or adoption, or have considered and decided you aren’t able to, or don’t want to, why not come along and hear more about what God is doing through Home for Good and ask Him how you can play a part in helping make sure there’s a loving, safe home for every child who needs one?
