Christmas

I love Christmas! No, really I do. I know for some it is a tough time, but by the grace of God Christmas has always been good to me. Even growing up in a slightly dysfunctional family, I remember Christmas being a time of Joy. When my own children were small I discovered that it really is better to give than to receive and the joy of hosting Christmas for my family.

This year will be different. How will those of us in the UK chose between family members as we limit ourselves to 3 households? The fact that I will not be able to join with family and friends on Christmas morning and declare at the top of our voices:

“Ye Lord we greet thee born this happy morning!”

Christmas 2020 will be smaller, quieter and potentially less joyful. There will be a real sense of loss for so many of us. But God is still with us.

The reality of that first Christmas and the magnitude of the incarnation remain. Perhaps with some of the trimmings stripped away this year, we will have more space to see Jesus. Maybe this year the baby in the manger can take centre stage.

With this fresh hope in our hearts, we have an amazing opportunity this year. The team at Everyday Church have been working away behind the scenes over the last couple of months to put together two amazing Christmas services. Working on harmonies, spoken word, scriptures, prayers and performance songs, the team have done all they can to make this Christmas Christ focused and far reaching.

We want to take all that work and make it available to thousands this year. Our London Life Groups have already committed to delivering over 5,000 physical invites across London and beyond. This number is just the tip of the iceberg, as we can all use our social media networks, our personal Christmas cards and our email connections to spread the word far and wide.

From Sunday 6th December we will be delivering cards and making our e-invite available. Why not get involved this year in one or all of the following:

  • Sunday 6th December – Join the ASK Prayer meeting as we pray for our Christmas events – email online@everyday.org.uk for Zoom login details.
  • Life Groups – Get involved with your Life Group as they pray over and then deliver Christmas card invites to their neighbours, friends, family and colleagues.
  • Get on social media – post the e-invite on your own social media accounts and keep following and promoting the Everyday Church social media – London & Online.

Christmas 2020 might be different for us this year – but imagine the eternal difference that the gospel can make to those around us. Let’s spread the JOY!
