Compassion UK Sponsor Trip Report

As a church, we’ve partnered with Compassion UK for the past 2 years. Today, 106 children are sponsored by Everyday Church people. This is amazing, but what you might not know is that these 106 children are split across 4 countries, with an even split of boys & girls.

Through your generosity as a church, young lives and being changed for the better. Because you give generously and pray wholeheartedly, families and even whole communities are being impacted by the gospel.

In May, a team of us went to visit the projects in Kenya that we support. We went to meet the teams there, to visit all our sponsored children, to pass on the gifts that you generously gave, and to see how this is all making a difference.

Recently I posted a series of videos that I took while I was out there, if you missed them you can catch up on them using the playlist below. While I was there I was struck by 2 things:

  1. When we met the leaders of Deliverance Church who run the project where most of our children are, I felt it was like being in a Wimbledon elders meeting. The way the elders and leaders talked made me realise that they run this project because they love Jesus, and they want to impact their local community with the gospel – and isn’t that what we’re about a church? So I want us not just to see the need in Kenya and think “isn’t it great we’re helping there”, but to also look at our own community and desire to have the same impact in Merton that we are having in Ngong.
  2. The second thing I noticed is the hope that was there. By giving to a family that is not your own you are communicating love for your neighbour, and as a result children have clean clothes, an education, good food, and a chance at being able to rise above their circumstance – I can tell you it is having an impact.

There are ways you can still get involved! If you would like to sponsor a child, please email wimbledon@everyday.org.uk and let us know, or visit Lynne & the team on the Outreach zone every Sunday at Everyday Wimbledon.

If you do sponsor a child, please write to them regularly. It was heartbreaking to hear of sponsor children who craved a letter from their sponsors. However it was equally moving to hear of children who had to move homes because of flash flooding, but managed to retreive their sponsor letters to take with them, so precious were they.

On behalf of the Wimbledon elders, I want to thank you all for your support, and hope you enjoy catching up on my trip videos.
