Growing in God together over the summer

A message from our lead pastor, Phil Moore, about how we can grow in God together over the summer…

Thank you so much for all of the messages that I have received from right across the Everyday Church family expressing a deep longing to be gathering back together again in person at our London  venues. I can’t wait either, and it is tantalising to be so close and yet so far from that happening. The British government has currently given us permission to gather back in person, but not to sing, preach, share prophetic words from the microphone, eat bread, drink wine, lay on hands for prayer or get too close to one another – in other words, most of the things that we are actually longing to gather back together to do! It looks as though, for the summer holidays at least, we will have to remain gathering online for our church services, our Life Groups and our daily prayer gatherings. That’s why we’ve taken some extra special steps to find ways for us to help each other grow in God over the summer, while we continue to await the moment when the government finally permits us to regather as a church in person.

First, we are pouring our energy into great online church services. On Sunday 19th July, we will be upgrading our online church platform to make it even easier for you to join us, to interact with your church friends in the chatroom and to receive prayer from someone in our prayer team. On  Sunday 26th July, we will be starting a new 6-week series that is all about the character of God, which will help us each to build deep spiritual foundations that can strengthen our faith in God during the final few weeks of lockdown, and beyond.

Second, we are pouring our energy into facilitating great Life Groups on Zoom. We normally encourage Life Groups to take a break over the summer, but in this strange season when we cannot gather in person on a Sunday we are very happy to hear that many of our Life Groups will be carrying on meeting over the summer. The fact that they are online means that many people will be able to keep connecting in, even whilst away on their holidays, so enjoy! If your own Life Group isn’t meeting over the summer, then it isn’t disloyal for you to join another Life Group temporarily for the six weeks of the summer. It is simply an enjoyment of the fact that we are one church in many locations, and an outworking of the command in Hebrews 10:25 – “Do not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encourage one another – and all the more as you see the Day approaching.”

Third, we are going to be producing a 10-minute daily devotional video for you to watch each day, either on your own or with friends and family, which will take you deeper into the character of God. These daily devotional videos will build on the message that you heard at our online service the previous Sunday. With so much of God’s character to explore and with only six summer Sundays in which to do so, we would really encourage you to subscribe to our YouTube channel, to watch these videos each day and to chat with your Everyday Church friends about what you are learning by commenting, either on our YouTube channel or on any other social media using the hashtag #InTheNameOfGod. If you would like to find out a bit more about these devotional videos before they launch on Monday 27th July, then just watch the short video trailer below.

May God really use these resources to help you grow in him during these final weeks of lockdown, and may we can come back together in person full of testimonies about all the great things that he has done in our lives!

With love,

Phil Moore
