Sex and Sexuality #1

Sex and Sexuality #1

When it comes to sex and sexuality, people have learned what to expect from Christians. They know that we will look at our feet and try to change the subject fast. We’ve taught people to expect us to avoid their questions about sex and sexuality like a slippery politician.

But Jesus didn’t. He talked frankly about God’s plan for sex and about what God says about pornography, masturbation, adultery, divorce and remarriage, polyamory and a whole lot more. That’s why I’m really excited to have begun our Sex and Sexuality preaching series at Everyday Church. It’s time for the Church to give people some straight answers.

Throughout the month of September, we are going to be accompanying the Sex and Sexuality series with over a dozen blogs. In this first blog, we’ll set the scene and then we’ll spend the rest of this week posting blogs about God’s big-picture plan for marriage. We’ll look at whether there is any difference between getting married and simply living together, and we’ll look at why all of this matters.

Next week, we’ll blog about some of the things that go wrong. We’ll particularly focus on the self-destructiveness of pornography and how you can take yourself on a porn detox, as well as looking at what God says about chauvinism, radical feminism, and divorce and remarriage.

During the final week of September, we’ll then look at same-sex attraction, gender fluidity and some of your other questions around transgender. So let’s kick off today with a video of the first message in the series below. If you weren’t at Everyday Church last Sunday, then this video lays out the Bible’s big-picture view of sex and sexuality. This is the foundation that we will build on for the rest of September, so take a look and let us know what you think.

If you are a Christian then we want to give you some proper answers. If you’re not a Christian then relax, you’re off the hook. We’re not expecting you to live your life according to the teaching of the Bible. We’re expecting you to live a life that is consistent with your unbelief, but we’re also expecting you to find these blogs refreshingly honest about what it means to follow Jesus.

This first message in the Sex and Sexuality series is all about Why It Matters.
